I got into the alumni committee. It is one of the best ones on campus since we get to interact with about 2000 alumni of the institute. To celebrate and get to know one another we had a small party in the city. Now i had my football match, so 2 people stayed behind and we were to go on bikes. I was to ride one of them as the rest did nt know how to.
Now instead of the bike, i got a scooter. The deal is i have driven a bike, but never a scooter. Well, it was pretty fun driving a scooter in the bhool-bhulaiya of lucknow with absolute no driving sense in the ordinary people
Alumni...and the scooter ride
Movies!
It is movies all over here right now! Some free time and scores of movies here, and what else do you want. Some of which i watched were No Man's land, Man on Fire, 50 first dates, The girl next door, Troy(again!), Sarkar, Finding Nemo, Meet the Fockers, Gone in 60 seconds......
Of all these No Man's Land & Man on Fire were simply awesome.....Movies should be like these. No Man's Land is about the Bosnia and Serbia conflict where the ground reality is depicted.
Man on Fire is based in Mexico and has Denzel Washington,, It is by far one of the best movies i have seen!
Apart from the moies the season of Friends, Joey, The Wonder years(the inspiration for the title!), MASH are also there. I guess after too much of movies, i will have to stop it here right now.
Nainital!
The day the exams got over, couple of friends called me over to the mess in the evening. The plan was to leave for nainital in like 30 minutes. Surprisingly 14 people got ready...Now our college is far from city, but we have insti transport at 30 minutes to and fro..Somehow we missed our bus....Then we took a lift from truck, tam-tam(the 3 wheeled 'be all' of north india), and rickshaw and finally ran for the last 4 kms. But we missed our train by just 5 minutes.
Tired, we went for dinner....Decided to take two taxis from lucknow to nainital, a distance of 500 kms!! I guess we just wanted a good break. So the 14 of us started in two qualis. Some started cribbing about "planning should have been better and crap". I had a hard time not to tell them "shove it up your ***". Somehow all of them landed in 1 taxi and we in another. And everyone there slept while we went singing all the way to nainital...
Nainital was just awesome. In nainital there is basically this central lake "naini" located in the ceentre with hills all around. It was a good week-end with sat-sun-mon(15th aug). Sadly other 500 people also thought the ame thing. So there was no scope of a room in the city itself. We decided in some seedy hotel which smelt like we had come to stay after ages.
Fortunately we got a place, actually a bungalow, 4 kms uphill because it just got a cancelled booking..The view was the best in nainital and the place was fabulous with a Karaoke room too...Another group also joined us and the 21 of us lived there for 2 days. It was really great to sit around the bonfire at night.
Midterms...
The mid terms are finally over. 6 papers in five days. And what a week!! The insti conducts its exams in a stricter manner than CAT itself.
-We have new seating arrangement for every paper.
-Got to report 5 minutes early or the doors are closed for 45 minutes during exam. (and believe me that is harakiri.)
-If you are caught doing something you shouldn't do, say bye-bye to that MBA degree.
couple of good things....
- all the formulae are given to you. The prof of statistics actually came asking whether we needed any formulae and wrote them on board. The trick is to use them properly.
-The papers are really fundoo, with questions like " essay on your learning experience in mba" for 10 marks.
- In Economics, we had a 30 mark question which was based on application of a theory to a real world problem and 20 marks for "Do you think eco is a science". Here the normal chatter that a prof does which you think is useless actually comes to your aid.
-IN LAW we had questions which stated "ANSWER UPTO SIX PAGES"!!!
Overall in one week we gave papers ranging from accounts, law, org behaviour, economics etc.
It was damn hectic with sleeping time from 3am to 6 am. Some even had entire night outs. Especially when we had two 3 hr papers in one day(and one of them was LAW!)
